Xposure returns for Summer 2022
We’re planning to bring back Xposure, Western Kentucky University’s acclaimed high school journalism workshop, in June 2022 after a two-year hiatus because of the global coronavirus pandemic.
We’re accepting applications now, with a deadline of April 25, and will select participants by the end of April. We’ll make a final call on hosting the workshop in May, depending on the status of the pandemic.
But for now, we’re moving forward! And you can apply here.
The nine-day workshop, designed to immerse 12 student deep into the world of multiplatform journalism, is undergoing a top-to-bottom makeover to ensure it delivers an experience that its students — the journalists of tomorrow — will value.
Xposure will continue to be free to remove any financial barriers that could prevent a deserving student from applying. However, students and their families will be welcome to contribute to the cost of the workshop if they have the means. Xposure costs about $1,200 per student — which covers all meals and snacks, housing, instruction, workshop materials and in-person experiences.
The application period for Xposure opens in February, with a deadline of April 25, and finalists will be selected and notified by early May. Those selected will participate in a variety of pre-workshop activities designed to assess their skills and interests before arriving on the WKU campus in June. The workshop itself will run June 11-19, 2022.
Xposure 2022 will be the 37th edition of the workshop, which launched in the 1981 as the Urban Journalism Workshop and was later known as the Minority Journalism Workshop. While Xposure continues to have a focus on recruiting students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the nation’s news organizations, it strives to be a truly diverse experience, encouraging applications from all ethnicities, backgrounds, orientations and socio-economic statuses.
